Police arrest criminals over coaches theft in Maiduguri
The Borno state police command on Saturday foiled the theft of some train coaches at the Maiduguri railway terminus in the state capital.
This is contrary to an denial by the management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation through its managing director, Fidet Okhiria, that no coaches were stolen.
The Police command, acting on a tip-off in the area, also apprehended six suspects.
The source from the State pollce command said, “A suspected theft of train coaches of the Nigerian Railway Corporation was foiled at the Maiduguri railway terminus following a tip-off by good Samaritans. The suspects were also apprehended by the Police”.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mahmood Yakubu, denied knowledge of the incident.
However, the spokesperson of the Borno state police command, Sani Kamilu Shatambaya, confirmed the incident, adding that six suspects had been arrested.
He said, “Yes, it is confirmed. We cannot confirm the number of train coaches yet but it is true. We also arrested six suspects and that is all I can tell you for now”.
