NADDC pushing for Auto Policy Passage Into Law Q2 2026

The long awaited National Auto in Industry Development Policy (NAIDP) Bill is set to be passed into law as the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) is vigorously pushing for the enactment by the National Assembly.
Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin gave the assurance Tuesday at the at the 18th edition of the Nigeria Auto Journalists Association (NAJA) international award 2025.
Speaking at award ceremony, Osanipin who assured that NADDC is putting efforts in making policies that ensure vehicles used in Nigeria are of high quality and fit to be shipped into the country in the first place.
The DG said “We remain committed to policies and programmes that strengthen local manufacturering in Nigeria. In second quarter of 2026, Part of what we need to achieve in the half of the year is the enactment of the Auto policy next year. Any moment from now, we are going to push it to the NASS to enact the policy. We will equally need your time to attend the public hearing”
Osanipin also said NADDC will soon commence phasing out of used vehicles in Nigeria as a way to promote local manufacturing.
The NADDC boss informed that Council launched Nigeria’s End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Recycling Regulation in March 2025 to create a circular economy, boost jobs, enhance environmental sustainability, and improve road safety by formalizing the dismantling, recycling, and repurposing of old vehicles, turning automotive waste into economic value.
He commended NAJA for maintaining and being consistent with the idea of recognizing excellence which is a significant factor in the industry.
