NADDC, CedricMasters Strengthens Automotive Ties with China as JIM-Isuzu Signs Collaboration Agreement

Nigeria’s drive toward automotive industrialization received a significant boost this week as the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Joseph Oluwemimo Osanipin, held high-level discussions with Jiangling Motors Group Co. Ltd. (JMCG) in Nanchang, China, aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in the automotive sector.
The engagement focused on expanding opportunities in technology transfer, local component manufacturing, skills development, and long-term investments that could accelerate the growth of Nigeria’s automotive ecosystem.
Osanipin said the discussions also explored future-oriented areas such as electric vehicle (EV) technology and broader industrial collaborations designed to enhance local content development and strengthen Nigeria’s automotive value chain.
A major highlight of the visit was the signing of a collaboration agreement between Jiangling Motors Group Co. Ltd. and Cedric Masters Limited, the Nigerian automotive company behind the JIM-Isuzu pickup brand.
The agreement is expected to pave the way for deeper technical cooperation, local assembly expansion, and increased investment in Nigeria’s automotive industry.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Osanipin described the development as a strong indication of growing international confidence in Nigeria’s automotive sector and its industrial potential.
“This partnership aligns with our vision of creating a robust automotive industry driven by local manufacturing, technology acquisition, and sustainable investments. It is another positive step toward achieving Nigeria’s industrialization objectives,” he said.
Reacting to the agreement, Chief Anselm Ilekuba, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cedric Masters Limited, expressed optimism about the prospects of the partnership, noting that it would significantly enhance the company’s capacity to deliver globally competitive vehicles while supporting local industrial development.
“This collaboration with Jiangling Motors Group marks a new chapter for Cedric Masters and the JIM-Isuzu brand in Nigeria. Beyond vehicle assembly, our focus is on technology transfer, skills development, and increasing local content participation. We are committed to supporting the Federal Government’s automotive development agenda and creating opportunities for employment, innovation, and value addition within the Nigerian economy,” Ilekuba stated.
He added that the partnership would facilitate access to advanced automotive technologies and strengthen the company’s efforts to expand production capabilities in Nigeria.
The NADDC boss commended the management of Jiangling Motors Group, Nigerian automotive stakeholders, and Cedric Masters Limited for their commitment to advancing automotive industrial development in Nigeria.
Industry observers believe the collaboration could contribute significantly to the country’s efforts to attract investment, develop local manufacturing capacity, and position Nigeria as a key automotive production hub in Africa.
