How to cooling system in Engines work

A cooling system works by sending a liquid coolant through passages in the engine block and heads. As the coolant flows through these passages, it picks up heat from the engine. The heated fluid then makes its way through a rubber hose to the radiator in the front of the car.

Most engines are liquid cooled with antifreeze mixed with water, this mixture circulates around the engines cylinders inside water jackets .

The circulation is done by the water pump with is usually driven by a belt weather it be a v belt , serpentine or timing belt from the engine. There is a device called the thermostat that regulates the flow of coolant through the engine .

The coolant flows through a radiator where it is cooled off and sent back to the engine after it circulates through the engine it Carry’s the heat away from the cylinders to be cooled again by the radiator . The reason for the thermostat is as the engine warms up the thermostat will slowly open letting more coolant flows to match the increasing heat.

That means it will regulate the flow depending on the engines load and rpm .oil circulates through the moving parts internally like the bearings pistons camshaft rockers and such also carrying excessive heat away from the moving parts and lubracating everything to.
