The Federal Government said it is committed towards ensuring that, the potentials of genuine automotive local components are fully harnessed to the benefit of Nigerians, says Joseph Oluwemimo Osanipin, director-general, National Automotive Design and Development Council, (NADDC).

Oluwemimo stated this in his speech at the West African Automotive Show (WAAS), on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

Aftermath a strategic meeting between the NADDC DG and the President of Auto Spare Parts & Machinery Dealers Association (ASPMDA), Hon. Ngozi Emechebe on the sidelines of the ongoing 2026 WAAS, the duo sealed fresh partnership deal to raise automotive experience in the country.

Addressing the media shortly after the opening ceremonies, the ASPMDA President, Hon. Ngozi Emechebe revealed that “the DG of NADDC has agreed to meet soon and discuss ways of partnering with ASPMDA to champion the growth of local production of auto spare parts in Nigeria.

He disclosed that further to the realization of the partnership, “the DG has agreed to pay a working visit to ASPMDA soon to see what we have been doing and thereafter, work out how his agency will help our members.

“Am happy that NADDC DG is coming to see things for himself at ASPMDA very soon. We will try our best at the Executive Council level of ASPMDA to place before him, offers that will change the face of automotive industry in Nigeria because we want to start local manufacturing so as to increase job opportunities for Nigerians and raise the nation’s industrial output and international ratings.

Responding to what members are doing to ride ASPMDA of the proliferation of sub-standard auto parts, Emechebe said that, the association is working in collaboration with the the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) to contain the menace.

He added that stringent penalties await anyone found culpable of indulging in the business of marketing and distribution of fake auto parts.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State government has declared its readiness to map out an industrial park for the purposes of building a cluster for automotive local components manufacturing that will serve the entire country.
