The Atayero of Aramoko Kingdom, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Oba (Dr.) Olusegun Aderemi, JP, has called for stronger collaboration among the Federal Government, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), automotive stakeholders and the media to improve road safety and reduce preventable crashes on Nigerian roads.

Oba Aderemi made the call while delivering a goodwill message at the 30th anniversary celebration of Motoring World held at the MUSON Centre, Lagos.
The monarch, who is also the Managing Director of Automatic Fit and Energy Limited, a company specialising in auto care services and renewable energy products, commended the Publisher of Motoring World, Mr. Femi Owoeye, and his team for their contributions to the development of Nigeria’s automotive industry.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to vehicle diagnostics, preventive maintenance and road safety advocacy in Nigeria, Oba Aderemi was honoured with Motoring World’s Auto Diagnostics & Service Excellence Award at the event.

He also paid tribute to the FRSC for its efforts in promoting road safety across the country.
Recalling the early days of his business, Oba Aderemi said his company collaborated with the FRSC to study the causes of road accidents in Nigeria.

According to him, findings from the exercise revealed that many crashes were linked to driver negligence and poor vehicle maintenance, including wheel misalignment, unbalanced tyres and other mechanical defects that could easily be corrected.

“We noticed that most of the accidents on our roads were due to negligence by drivers and faults arising from unaligned wheels, unbalanced tyres and other avoidable vehicle defects,” he said.

The monarch explained that the findings inspired the establishment of his auto care business, which focuses on wheel alignment, tyre balancing and other preventive maintenance services aimed at improving vehicle safety.

He expressed satisfaction that increased awareness of proper vehicle maintenance has contributed to reducing road accidents over the years.

The monarch however, lamented the low level of knowledge among many motorists regarding basic vehicle maintenance and tyre safety.
He noted that many drivers are unaware of the importance of wheel alignment and tyre balancing, while others rely on incorrect advice regarding tyre pressure.

According to him, excessive tyre pressure remains a major safety risk, particularly on highways.
He warned motorists against inflating their tyres beyond recommended limits, stressing that overinflated tyres become even more dangerous during long-distance travel due to heat expansion.

“I feel bad when I see motorists being advised to inflate their tyres to 40 or 50 psi. That is dangerous. Within the city, tyre pressure should generally not exceed 35 psi, and even on the highway, drivers should be careful because tyres naturally expand as they heat up,” he said.

The traditional ruler urged stakeholders to continue supporting initiatives that promote road safety awareness and proper vehicle maintenance.
He also disclosed plans to work with former FRSC Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, and Motoring World Publisher, Mr. Femi Owoeye, on future road safety initiatives.

According to him, details of the proposed collaboration will be unveiled in a future edition of Motoring World.
He expressed optimism that stronger partnerships among government agencies, industry players and the media would help create safer roads and a more conducive operating environment for motorists across the country.
